Registration is officially open for the 2023 BKLYN MILE: Bandit Men's and Women's Open. If you need any convincing for why this race is in the conversation for best of the year (outside the holy grail, of course), allow us to make our case. Here's 5 good reasons to get in on the action.
1. The Course - If you’re a runner in Brooklyn, you know Kent Avenue as an obstacle course of cars, bikes and pedestrians. True chaos. But... what if, once a year it turned into a fully cleared human-version formula 1 race course? The Brooklyn Mile makes that dream come true. Starting at the Navy Yard, under the Williamsburg Bridge, passed Domino Park and ending at Greenpoint’s doorstep, you can’t really ask for a more exhilarating course to shoot for a personal best.
2. The Experience - Akin to the Kentucky Derby, you'll load into the race stall shoulder-to-shoulder with your best friend, biggest rival and the heavy hitters from every NYC running community before the horn goes off for a mad dash up Kent. Keep pace via the quarter mile markers and plan your strategy accordingly, the streets are unforgiving if you kick too soon.
3. The Community - Many know the NYC Marathon as the best marathon in the world because of the energy from the fans - take that experience and condense 26.2 into one mile of celebration. This race has it all - music, horns, drum lines, bikes, confetti canons, plentiful high-fives and maybe a run-in with that one person you went on a singular hinge date with 2.5 years ago.
4. The After Party - Once your lungs have recovered from near collapse, hit the BKLYN Mile festival area on the beautiful East River Park waterfront to get your photo snapped with friends before heading to the Bandit Running afterparty for an afternoon of music, games and celebration with friends new and old. Stay tuned for details.
5. The Charity - If you're not already convinced to participate, then consider that all that madness directly benefits Girls On The Run NYC, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential, and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. Girls on the Run inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrates what makes them one of a kind.
