The Unsponsored Project: Empowering 35 athletes at the US Track & Field Olympic Trials to declare their independence while chasing Olympic dreams. The Unsponsored Project works in three main ways.
First, providing unbranded kits allows athletes to represent themselves, rather than giving free ad space to brands that are not supporting them.
Second, the unbranded kits signal to brands that the athlete is a free agent and eligible for signing.
Third, and tying it all together, the Unsponsored contracts provide athletes with support dollars aimed at alleviating the costs of flights, accommodations, and other miscellaneous items. Contracts also have a release clause where athletes can immediately sign with another company if one were to approach them.
