When we introduced The Program App back in December, we spoke about how it was an MVP (minimum viable product)... aka the most fundamental/basic/beta version we could possible release into the hands of users in order to glean the learnings and insights necessary to inform future updates and iterations.
Well, we've been hard at work the past four months in the background gathering feedback, making sense of the analytics/data we can see, and ultimately building towards a massive update for the Fall marathon training season.
This app update, Version 1.0, will officially release in the App Store 16 weeks out from the Berlin Marathon on June 10th.
Here's what's coming...
The MVP version of the app only supported Boston and London, but now with V1 you'll officially be able to generate a training plan for any and every marathon, so long as you're at least 14 weeks out from that race.
The home tab has gotten a little design makeover. It's now easier to see at a glance what type of workout the plan calls for and smoother to read the finer details of it. We've also decided to keep the screen a bit simpler and remove the bottom tile that showed what tomorrow's workout entails. That info is always available in the week view. Speaking of the week view...
While we standby the Program App not needing to be a tracking app, it's important that you can at the very least see your weekly mileage graph from Week 1 to Week 16. The graph represents a simple calculation of the [estimated] total mileage you'll run over each week.
And in V1, we're excited to release the "reorder" functionality, so you can adjust the sequence of each week's workouts to your own personal needs.
The weekly educational guidance and themes have moved out of this tab and into the Coach tab...
What used to just be the CoachGPT tab, now encompasses a more visually rich educational center with each week's theme and tips for running, nutrition, sports psychology, strength, and mobility.
CoachGPT is still by your side for any questions you may have, now with a variety of quick-ask buttons that automatically generate answers.
As for the profile screen, we've also made it a little more aesthetically pleasing with custom designs for each race. But that's not all... You'll be able to edit your plan and adjust your goals at your leisure and your plan will instantly update. You'll still have access to your pace chart per usual. And now all settings like password reset and whatnot are working just as the app lords intend.
Finally, we have the answer to the question—what happens after you finish your plan? Once you complete your final workout (the marathon) you'll get hit with some confetti and then taken to a ~new home~ where you can continue using the app with AI-generated workouts. And whenever you're ready to race again, you can start a new training plan right at the bottom of the screen.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Version 1.0 coming the week of June 3rd.
As always, thank you to Matt & Taylor for building this app with us, for the community.
