Ahead of Drop 001 tomorrow morning, we asked our co-founder and Chief Design Officer, Ardith aka Ardi V. aka the GOAT, what makes our new tank great. We jotted down notes as fast as we could, but we'll be real honest... You had to be there. The passion and care that was put into the making of this tank is next-level. Maybe one day Ardi will let us unveil the video of this convo. In the meantime, here's what we got:
The Fabric
"It always starts with the fabric." Our tank is made of peached cotton spandex, which is the chef kiss emoji of tank material. "Peached" means the fabric is gently brushed with micro needles that fluff and break up the fibers a teeeeny tiny bit to make it super soft and comfortable. The fabric is "gutsy" too. When we ask if that means dense, she nods in approval. "It feels like a warm little cozy embrace when you put it on." Tanks are commonly sheer and a bit wimpy in structure. "This tank has guts and molds to your body in a way that doesn't feel like compression. It just feels like it's holding you. This creates insane versatility. Ooh! Versatility should be the next point."
The Versatility
"This tank is a workhorse. If you close your eyes and reach into your closet, whatever you pull out, this tank will go with it. You could go silk skirt and heels, or cutoff jeans and cute sneakers. It can be dressed up or kept casual, and it's sexy in subtle and unexpected ways. Like how your sides peek out of the curvy hem. Am I making sense? You're going to be constantly putting this tank on no matter what else you're wearing with it." Get you a tank that can do both.
The Fit and Feel
"I said this in the first part, but it hugs you all over in just the right way. Fit and fabric always connect." It doesn't feel like compression nor does it feel at all baggy or loose. The healthy amount of spandex allows for the garment to recover perfectly on the body. "The way this tank gently grips you makes everything look... smooth. Like in a soft, glowy way. It's not at all shape-shifting, but at the same time it's very, very smooth." The tank is also cropped just enough. "There's an elegant simplicity to it. It's not overcomplicated, but you'll find thoughtful details that will make you fall in love with it. Speaking of which..."
The Thoughtful Detail
"One secret thing I love about our tank is how all of the gorgeous subtle curves reflect back to what we're doing with our branding. I think about all of that as I'm designing." The way the bottom hem has a shirt-tail shape around the sides and how the arm sleeves cutaway off the chest mimics the fluid and smooth flow of the Bandit logo. "It also perfectly balances soft moments with sporty elements, which hits that intersection of fashion and performance we're always aiming for." For instance, the way the bottom hem is constructed combines a beautiful curve with a turn-back that's split into two raw edges. That provides a look of being just undone enough. "The perfect harmony of both is so crucial."
So, what makes a great tank?
Caring... a lot... about everything.
We love you, Ardi!! Cheers <3
