This coming weekend, Copenhagen will host one of the most popular half marathons in the world aptly titled, the "Copenhagen Half Marathon." It's rare that a 13.1 mile race can attract over 25 thousand people, but experiencing the rich history, people, and vibrant cultural scene make it one of the most undeniably fulfilling race experiences of the year.
Copenhagen is broken up into 14 very navigational districts with a thriving culture centered around food, design, and most relevantly, running. The primary run crew is NBRO, a collective of runners in the criminally cool neighborhood of Nørrebro, where they convene and are led by founder Anders Roemer.
Learn more about NBRO in our full profile by Sarah Gearhart here.

Leading up to race weekend, we asked Anders to give us the insider, local's tips to the charming city that is Copenhagen:
Culture:
Louisiana Museum
Address: Gl Strandvej 13, 3050 Humlebæk, Denmark
There are no two ways around it - Denmark's aesthetic inclinations and culture of excellent design are fawn-worthy. If you’re a fan of contemporary and modern art, look no further than the Louisiana Museum. Located an hour train north of the city, you’ll find a serene environment with an impressive permanent collection from Monet to Miró.
Get. That. Bread.
Copenhagen is a walking and biking city. To keep yourself fueled before the Half, we suggest you snack and carb up at these incredible bakeries. Lille, Rondo, Hart, Benji, Andersen & Maillard or Alice.
Running:
Dyrehaven Park
Home to the world’s oldest existing amusement park, this stunning park boasts trails that all link in a star-shape, allowing hunters of yore to keep track of their hunting dogs. These days, they act as super runnable trails, making for the perfect AM or PM excursion. 20 minutes from Norrebro by car, 45 minutes by bike.
Want to stay local to run?
Also totally understandable - here’s a nice running route from Anders and Tim Rossi through the streets of Copenhagen.
Bars to Visit:
Himmeriget
Address: Åboulevard 27, 1960 Frederiksberg, Denmark
A stones throw from Hans Tavsens Park, this cozy bar boasts an incredible rotating draft list along with bottles + cans. Not a beer lover? No issue here. Wine and cocktails await (butttt you should probably just get a beer).
Vinhanen
Address: Baggesensgade 13, 2200 København, Denmark
An Instagram worthy wine bar on the south end of the Nørrebro neighborhood. This impressive space gets packed, but for good reason - the wines are carefully curated and imported directly from producers and cooperatives from top wine-producing countries. Also their charcuterie and food is *chef's kiss.* (literally)
BRUS
Address: Guldbergsgade 29, 2200 København, Denmark
Large outdoor space. Upscale pub food. Low key, laid-back atmosphere. Say no more. Brus boasts one of the best all around bars/eateries/shops in the neighborhood. Added bonus on Tuesdays: from 12-3pm you get a 10% discount if you bring a baby. (please only bring your own baby)
Places to eat:
Darcy’s Nørrebro
Address: Rantzausgade 2, 2200 København, Denmark
Anders calls this one of the best coffee places in the city. We trust.
Lee’s Kitchen for pre-race carbs
Address: Åboulevard 13A, 1635 København, Denmark
Incredible food, large portions, low-key ambiance - Lee’s Kitchen may be our top recommendation for carb loading before your half marathon. With a simple menu of mainly Cantonese dishes, Lee’s is fairly new to the scene, opening up earlier this year and already generating serious buzz.
Lago
Address: Korsgade 1, 2200 København, Denmark
Come for the Mediterranean food, stay for the natural wine. This lovely restaurant on the Søerne lake is best for date nights. Pull up, get a glass of wine, stare into the sea and let the magic of Copenhagen take you awayyyy.
Enjoy, friends.
Thanks to Anders and the whole crew over at NBRO!
