Shot for Shot is a friendly photographer face-off with set parameters. We talk about how we connect with an athletic event through the lens of photography and show how different styles can illustrate an event in unique ways.
The last week of June was SWIRL NYC chapter community skate meet up in Domino Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This was the setting for two running photographers going head-to-head: Dave Hashim and Kristina Williamson.
First, a bit about SWIRL NYC: Started in 2018, SWIRL was founded to create a space for women in skateboarding to learn, cultivate friendships, and use skateboarding to connect like-minded individuals. Like running, skating has a wide range of types: long boarding, carver, trick boarding, penny boarding. Each with their own style and skillset.
Upon arrival, we were blown away by the safe and empowering space that was being created. It was immediately apparent that we were witnessing a special community up close. But what did it look like? Let's see.
Williamson: As if shooting running wasn’t enough of a challenge, sure let’s add some wheels. I’m game.
Hashim: If any of my photos are decent, I credit the sun for being there, just setting. Thanks Sun, good work.
