Small Batch Lab Exp. 002 is a 1 of 30 new 100% cotton tee that celebrates our Greenpoint, Brooklyn roots while simultaneously nodding to our deep appreciation for abstract art.
The graphic language expressed on 002 is grounded in Bandit’s home base in Brooklyn, with both our HQ at "190" West and our first store at "37" Noble Street appearing front and center on the tee.
The approach to the graphic was largely inspired by Joseph Albers "Homage to the Square." The form (from our Miami Marathon poster that preceded this evolved design) was already there—the simplified abstract runners. Albers approached color as the primary expression, keeping form secondary.
Here, in the graphic, it was a fun opportunity to focus on playing with color, introducing a fresh palette that feels elevated in its cool tones and interesting color tensions.
The focus on color came through throughout the entire process, to the point of working with our local screen printer directly to ensure color mixing was exact to our vision, from hue, saturation, and brightness.

Small Batch Lab (SBL) is Bandit's design playground where creativity flows and no idea is a bad idea. Sketching, collaging, pulling inspiration, and embodying the ethos of running drives the SBL. This program enables us to see where experimentation can lead all while producing opportunity for hyper-limited samples of the designs for Members only. Each experiment produces 1 of 30 products or fewer.
